Los Angeles based recording artist Smokey Joe Wood has recorded a new blues / country fried soul CD on the Jailbird label. While heavy on guitar and swamp cooler twang, the CD includes 15 new original blues songs cut mostly at the newly opened Altura Audio in La Crescenta California. The package also includes the Van Holmes/Lee Mosslander inspirational song "Free Once More", originaly produced by long time engineer and producer Michael Verdick showcasing great performances by Ambrosia drummer Burleigh Drummond and the Inglewood Babtist Choir. This cool baseball song is the story of Van's grandfather "Ducky" Holmes who played back-up catcher on the 1915 World Series Champions Boston Red Sox. Babe Ruth was in his first full year in the "Bigs" and was still only known as a pitcher. |
